Sky is launching a brand new TV service called My5TV, which will give you a bit of control over your television. And it does this by allowing you to launch apps and services from an interface on your television.
What is My5TV?
My5TV was first announced at IFA 2016 and we now know that Sky is launching a brand new TV service called My5TV, which will give you a bit of control over your television. And it does this by allowing you to launch apps and services from an interface on your television.
Sky has confirmed that the My5TV app will be available to download from 15 August. It will be available for smart TV devices, tablets and smartphones, and as the name suggests, it will allow you to choose up to five channels and apps to add to the channel line-up in your My5TV.
The purpose of My5TV is to allow you to have a more customisable, personalised experience. You can add or remove services and apps that you like and that you want to watch.
Once you’ve chosen your five channels and apps, you will be able to see what those channels are showing. You can then select what service to launch to bring the channels and apps to your television screen.
You will also be able to access these services from other apps on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or whatever else you may have at the moment.
How to activate My5TV on your Sky Q box ?
To My5TV Activate you’ll need to head to the My5TV landing page on Sky’s website, which can be found here. Here you will need to hit the “activate your free month” option. Once you do that, you will be able to connect to your My5TV box to sign up for the service.
The only hiccup you may run into when using My5TV is if you’re using a third-party Sky box or a different TV service. In those instances you will need to select the “change device” option to change the input on your Sky Q box. This is so that you can use the app.

What are some of the main features of My5TV?
My5TV is an all-new way of watching Sky – it’s a really important part of the network’s shift towards viewing over the internet. Here are some of the main features you can expect to use in the My5TV app.
Diversity: There are hundreds of apps and services that can be added to My5TV, including some that Sky isn’t even supporting just yet. It’s hoped that, in time, there will be thousands of apps and services available on My5TV.

High-definition 4K content: My5TV won’t have as much 4K content as you may be used to with Netflix or other streaming services, but it will have plenty for anyone who has a 4K TV.
Frictionless sign-up: This is one of the main features of My5TV. There is no peskier signing-up process. Once you’ve added apps and services to your box, you’re good to go. All you have to do is pick the My5TV channel and it’s set for you.
How much will My5TV cost?
The standard package will set you back £10 per month – that’s less than £40 a year. However, Sky is offering a variety of add-ons for different levels of prices. You can choose from basic Plus TV for £11 per month, Live & On Demand TV+ for £13 a month, or the Movies & Entertainment add-on for £15 a month.
My5TV is only available on Sky Q boxes. The news was announced this week at a special event ahead of the official start of the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
